How to look natural and relaxed for your couple photographs

1 Be yourself

It sounds obvious, but you are you, you are a couple, you are happy being close to each other so just be who you are. Your relationship and love for each other will shine through.

2 Relax

When I do the couple shots, I take you away from the hustle and bustle of your wedding guests. We go to quiet picturesque parts of your venue. It is a quiet time for you both to be together - yes with me there, granted, but I'm not in your face at all, I keep back and guide you gently and quietly from a distance.

It is also a time after your photographs for you to relax together and let the emotions of the day settle in. A time to chill and chat before going back to your guests re-energised to continue socialising.

3 Get close to each other

In almost all cases for the couple shots, I will ask you to be close together. Holding each other, holding hands and above all being yourselves.

4 Laugh

Go on, make each other laugh, don't worry about the pose of how it looks - have a belly laugh. I'll capture it as happens, and they look great - enjoy this quieter time together on your day and have fun.

5 Look at each other not me

I want to capture the chemistry between the two of you, your family and friends will want to see that in your photographs also. So don't worry about looking at me - unless I ask you - and I will occasionally ask you to look towards me. The rest of the time, just relax and chat - chat about anything.

If it doesn't feel right or like something, you would typically do then say. In the unlikely event, I ask you to stand or sit somewhere, and it just doesn't feel right or natural then say. In 99.9% of cases I'll be able to see that anyway but always feel free, to be honest.

Do you have some ideas? - Have you seen poses on Pinterest?

Mention them on the day, even better send me some ideas before your day. I can't guarantee to match the image exactly as I am more interested in capturing the real version of you as a couple, but I will try.

Remember your pre-wedding shoot?

During the pre-wedding shoot, we will have had a chance to get to know each other and for you to feel more relaxed with me photographing you. Turn your minds back to the things we did on that day, you'll remember it was very relaxed and light-hearted. Your wedding day couple shots are no different - you're just dressed better :)

Above all

Relax in the knowledge that I'll capture the best version of you as a couple you could possibly imagine. These images from the whole story of your day will really stand out and be cherished by you forever.
