Matara Centre - Cotswolds

Wedding photography, I think you’ll agree if you are reading this, is a very important aspect of any wedding day. It captures and preserves your significant moments and memories to cherish for a lifetime. I wanted to write about one of my favourite wedding venues, The Matara Centre, near Kingscote in the Cotswolds. I was delighted to attend an awards dinner last night, along with many other wonderful suppliers, in the Best of The Best of Matara awards in which I won the ‘More than a venue’ award for one of my photographs.

The Matara Centre is an elegant and serene wedding venue located in the Cotswolds. Matara has been rated as one of the top wedding destinations in the UK, and therefore a dream place for many couples who plan to tie the knot. This blog takes you on a little tour of the venue which is classed as “more than” a wedding venue.

Matara Centre - More than a wedding venue

The Matara Centre is a beautiful 12th-century stately home that has been renovated and transformed into an exceptional wedding venue. Its unique and stunning architecture, lush green gardens, and stunning views make it a photographer's paradise and a stunning backdrop to your wedding day. The Matara Centre can host intimate weddings of just a few close family & friends through to larger weddings of up to 150 guests. Its highly experienced staff work tirelessly to ensure every couple's wedding day surpasses their expectations.

Wedding photography at the Matara Centre involves capturing the unique love story of each couple and creating timeless photographs to tell your story. My complimentary pre-wedding shoots are an excellent opportunity for you to get comfortable and familiar with your wedding photographer and their working style. The Matara Centre offers couples unique and beautiful scenic spots for photoshoots, such as the green gardens, rustling trees, or the grand staircase of the Manor House.

Let’s take a little explore around this wonderful wedding location.

Arrival at Matara is an immersive and impressive experience for you and your guests - so much to see with lots of little hidden areas for you to discover.

Getting ready time is in the main house or the lovely honeymoon lounge. Both lovely bright spaces with lots of room for you and your maids to get pampered. There is plenty of space for your guests to assemble, enjoy a welcome drink and canapés ahead of the ceremony.

The ceremony space is iconic at Matara and has to be seen to be experienced, it is beautiful in it’s own right and with the addition of flowers and chair coverings and other dressing ideas it becomes unique to you.

The Ceremony

After the ceremony it’s time to greet your guests, maybe some confetti and even a bouquet toss.

Then some time with your photographer to explore the beautiful grounds for some timeless shots of the newly married you. There is a lot to explore so my approach is to have you enjoy time with your guests and I take you away for small periods of time at various points throughout the day for these shots.

Did someone mention a wedding breakfast, Matara has you covered, the catering at Matara is second to non. For small intimate weddings there is the wonderfully appointed dining room in the main house, for larger weddings you have the amazing Hilarium that can be decorated to match the theme of your wedding day and converts into a great party space for the evening entertainment.

Still time to explore the grounds, see what you can find, plenty of parkland and wooded areas which you may not have seen yet - have a wander - there is also a wonderful opportunity to have a tree dedicated in celebration of your wedding day. Something you can come back to year after year and watch it grow - I’ll resist the temptation to put in the analogy about how it’s just like your love and marriage will grow - or maybe I just did.

Time to party, enjoy some wood fired pizza or a marshmallow or two from the fire pit.

I like to capture some night time shots before I leave, they create a lovely ending to the story of your wedding day.

Matara also hosts celebration of life, zen retreats and the community gardens and parklands are open to the public (with prior booking which can be made here).

In conclusion:

Your wedding day at the Matara Centre is an adventure to be cherished and choosing the right photographer will ensure you day captures and preserves the beautiful memories for you and future generation of you.
